RIGGINS, Idaho—Idaho County officials say a 47-year-old man wanted in Colorado is dead and a deputy sheriff was injured during a shootout in Riggins.

County Commissioner Jim Rehder says Curtis Scrivner was killed in a gun battle with the unnamed deputy at about 7:30 a.m. about five miles east of Riggins.

Rehder says the deputy was reportedly shot in the abdomen and ankle and was taken by ambulance to a hospital in McCall.

Scrivner was contacted by Riggins Deputy Jonny Wilson on Tuesday for failure to appear on a felony warrant from El Paso County, Colo., At that time, Scrivner reportedly displayed a firearm and fled from Wilson.

Additional law enforcement backup was summoned because Scrivner had made previous threats to officers.

Details of how and when Scrivner died have not been released.
