A tax protester who attempted to issue an arrest warrant for a federal judge was sentenced in Denver to 27 months in prison Thursday for failing to file tax returns.

A jury found Darrell Stoffels, 59, of Larkspur, guilty on June 22, after 15 minutes of deliberation.

Stoffels was found guilty on three counts of failing to file tax returns in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

One week before his jury trial, Stoffels attempted to file a bench warrant for U.S. District Judge Christine M. Arguello, the judge who sentenced Stoffels on Thursday.
