LOVELAND, Colo.—A booby-trap backfired on a beekeeper who was trying to get back at a bear that had knocked over one of his beehives.
Authorities say 68-year-old John Frost of Loveland went to the hospital with an injured hand earlier this month. He told authorities that he was hurt when he was cleaning his shotgun, preparing for the bear’s return.
Larimer County sheriff’s deputies tell The Denver Post that Frost’s injuries appeared to be minor.
But deputies say his story about how he was hurt didn’t add up. They say they found a booby-trapped shotgun after checking the man’s property.
The state Division of Wildlife and the sheriff’s office say they won’t pursue charges against Frost.
