DENVER—State health officials are investigating the death of a Denver college student as a possible case of meningococcal disease.
State health department spokesman Mark Salley tells The Denver Post that the sudden onset of the symptoms and the student’s death Thursday have raised concerns that it could a bacterial meningococcal case.
Meningococcal bacteria cause meningitis and the blood infection sepsis.
Colorado State University sophomore Christina Adame (Ah-Dom-aye) died last month from a meningococcal infection. The same strain of the disease was found in three men who died after playing in a hockey game in June at a Fort Collins recreation center and a Metro State student who died in April.
Thousands of CSU students, employees and their family members got free vaccines earlier this month.
