Police in Fountain are asking for the public’s help as they continue to search for a man who impersonated an officer last week.
They have released a sketch of the suspect.
A Fountain woman told police that at about 11:45 a.m. on Nov. 10 a man knocked on her door in the 800 block of South Santa Fe Avenue.
When the victim answered, a man dressed like a police officer said her son had “just got caught breaking into a trailer,” according to a Fountain Police media release.
The woman told the imposter that her son was in school, and she asked the man who he was. He replied that he was a police officer in the area.
The woman told the man she didn’t believe him, and said she would call Fountain Police.
The imposter left in a white, older-model car, possibly a Chevrolet Caprice or a Ford Crown Victoria, with a spotlight on the driver’s side, and drove off, police said.
Police described the suspect as a “dark” skinned man, possibly “Hispanic or Italian,” about 6-feet tall with short black hair and short facial hair, perhaps two-day beard stubble. The imposter was wearing a dark shirt and pants, similar to the uniform worn by Fountain police. The man also wore a police duty belt with a hand-cuff case, pepper spray and a baton.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Tom Davis at 719-382-8555 or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
