A man fell to his death early Friday morning in Denver after jumping from a slow-moving car and climbing a fence in an apparent attempt to avoid police.

The man was later identified as Daniel Vincent Aragon, 22, of Englewood.

The incident happened about 12:30 a.m. on West Colfax Avenue near the Auraria Campus, the Denver Police Department said.

A vehicle ran a red light and an Auraria Police Department officer in a marked patrol car activated his lights and siren to pull it over but the driver wouldn’t stop.

Instead, the vehicle headed west on Colfax Avenue at a very slow speed, police said.

Aragon jumped from the car and was climbing over a fence on the Colfax Avenue viaduct when he fell, landing in a parking lot below.

Aragon was taken to Denver Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police believe Aragon was wanted on a parole violation.

There were two other people in the vehicle at the time of the incident, police said. They were not identified.
