LOVELAND, Colo.—Prosecutors have reached a plea deal with a Montana woman accused of entering a Colorado museum and destroying artwork denounced by critics as obscene.
Prosecutors tell Denver’s KUSA-TV that 56-year-old Kathleen Folden, a truckdriver from Kalispell, Mont., has pleaded guilty to criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. She’ll serve 18 months of unsupervised probation.
A Jan. 28 hearing is set to determine restitution.
Authorities say Folden used a crowbar to smash a covering over the lithograph at the museum in Loveland in October. They say she ripped a panel critics say showed Jesus Christ engaged in a sex act.
Witnesses say Folden screamed, “How can you desecrate my lord?”
California artist Enrique Chagoya has said his work is a critique of institutions, not people’s beliefs.
