BAILEY — Tyler Faoro scored three touchdowns and Class 2A’s top-seed Florence took advantage of some early field position Saturday for a 27-16 win at No. 9 Platte Canyon in the state quarterfinals.

Faoro scored on runs of 2, 8 and 4 yards as Florence (12-0) advanced to next week’s semifinals at Olathe.

“We did a really good job blocking up front,” Faoro said. “The line did a great job of making holes for us to go through.”

Florence began its first three drives inside Platte Canyon territory after the host Huskies fumbled the opening kickoff. But it wasn’t until Faoro scored from 2 yards out on the third drive that Florence was able to get on the scoreboard.

After Platte Canyon (10-2) pulled within 14-8 on a Michael Clark 3-yard keeper and two-point conversion, the visiting Huskies regained the momentum when John Alexander broke off a 66-yard TD run three plays later.
