DENVER—More than 1,000 fans have turned out to welcome home the Colorado Rapids, who’ve won their first MLS championship.

Denver’s KUSA-TV reports that Gov. Bill Ritter was among those celebrating the soccer team’s victory at a rally Tuesday on the downtown Denver mall. He had proclaimed the day “Colorado Rapids Day” in honor of the team’s 2-1 win over FC Dallas Sunday in Toronto.

MLS Cup MVP and Denver South High School graduate Conor Casey says he’s proud to bring home a title. The players were introduced one by one, led by coach Gary Smith.

Team captain Pablo Mastroeni hoisted the Phillip F. Anschutz Trophy, drawing cheers from the crowd.
