The funeral for fallen Deputy Sam Brownlee will be Monday morning, the Weld County Sheriff’s Department said.
Brownlee, 43, died Tuesday after he was shot three times with his own service pistol by car- theft suspect Rueben Reyes, 20, who was then shot and killed by other officers. The shooting happened in Evans after a high- speed chase that began in Morgan County.
Brownlee is the first Weld County sheriff’s deputy killed in the line of duty in 70 years.
Services will be at 10 a.m. in Greeley at the University of Northern Colorado’s Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion, at 20th Street and 14th Avenue.
A funeral procession will follow the service, traveling from the campus to Linn Grove Cemetery, at 1700 Cedar Ave. in Greeley.
A memorial fund has been set up at Chase Bank in Greeley, the Sheriff’s Department said in a media release. Donations can be made to account No. 2973017086. Checks can be made payable to Sam Brownlee Memorial or to Sam Brownlee.
