FRISCO — A beetle infestation in the Colorado mountains has prompted the U.S. Forest Service to cancel Christmas-tree cutting in parts of the White River National Forest this year.
The Dillon Ranger District announced it won’t issue tree-cutting permits for the 2010 holidays.
The Forest Service cited safety fears because of how many trees are dying from pine beetles.
Christmas-tree cutting will still be allowed in other parts of the White River National Forest and in nearby forests. Those include the Pike/San Isabel National Forest, the Arapahoe/Roosevelt National Forest and the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest.
