BERLIN — BMW’s chief executive says German automakers need to look beyond electricity as the only renewable-energy source for the industry and is optimistic they will develop a new technology.
Norbert Reithofer warned Friday at an economic conference organized by newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung against focusing on a single technology, saying that Germany’s leading automakers “have to come up with something new.”
Although Germany boasts three of the world’s leading automakers, with Mercedes- Benz and Volkswagen alongside BMW, they have not been among industry leaders in developing environmentally friendly cars.
