The phones have started ringing with people ready to help a motorcycle club that lost their toy fund money.

The “Los Cochinos” motorcycle group raises money throughout the year to buy Christmas toys for children in the Westwood neighborhood.

On Friday morning, Gail Valdez and another woman from the club went shopping for toys at a WalMart store. As they loaded up $800 worth of toys, they dropped a bag containing another $5,000 from the toy fund.

The women returned after they realized they had dropped the bag. They found the bag, but the money was gone.

Valdez said Saturday that people have started calling, saying they are interested in donating money to replenish the fund in time for Christmas. The checks are being sent to Denver City Councilman Paul Lopez’s office, so a count on how much has been donated won’t be available until Monday.

If you’re interested in donating, checks can be mailed to Denver City Councilman Paul Lopez, 4200 Morrison Road, Unit No. 7, Denver, Colo., 80219. Attention: Toyz in the Hood Run.

Checks should be made out to Servicios de la Raza, with “Toys in the Hood Run” or “Los Cochinos,” in the memo line.
