Getting your player ready...

Air Force defensive back Reggie Rembert, a senior from Flower Mound, Texas, was named a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association on Monday.

Rembert is the first AFA player with that status since defensive back Carlton McDonald, who was a consensus All-American in 1992. Air Force running back and wide receiver Chad Hall, now in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, was a third-team All-American in 2007.

Rembert has three interceptions this season for the bowl-bound Falcons and nine interceptions in his career. This year, he was named the Mountain West Conference and Walter Camp Football Foundation national player of the week for his performance against Colorado State. He had seven tackles, a fumble recovery, an interception and three pass breakups against the Rams. He was a first-team all-MWC selection last year and earned preseason first-team honors this year.

Also representing the MWC on the AFCA’s All- America team is Texas Christian junior linebacker Tank Carder.

Colorado Mines star saluted.

Three-time All-American Ben Zywicki was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association cross country athlete of the year for the Central Regional, becoming the first Colorado Mines runner to earn the honor.

Earlier in the season, Zywicki won the Fort Hays Tiger Open with the fastest 8K time in Orediggers history (23:48.6).

Zywicki also has the second-fastest 8K time (24:03) in school history, which he ran in helping Mines to a second-place finish at the Greater Louisville Classic. In that meet, he placed in the top five among NCAA Division II finishers and 15th overall.

The Colorado Mines men’s team will compete in its sixth consecutive Division II cross country championships Dec. 4 in Louisville, Ky.
