Getting your player ready...

Because it could take some of those dummies a little while to get their acts together, registration is already underway for the Dummy Demolition Derby taking place in Vail on Dec. 9.

Part of the annual Vail Snow Daze celebration, the Dummy Demolition Derby is a competition among teams of up to three people constructing (and summarily decimating) snow-riding dummies attached to skis or a snowboard, then launching their creations off a giant, flaming jump.

Dummies are judged on distance, air, creativity, takeoff, landing and crowd response, with the top three teams claiming prizes up to $3,000. The more destruction, the better. Entry is $100 per team, and the field is limited to 20 teams. The contest cranks up at 5 p.m. on Golden Peak and will be followed by a free concert from Mix Master Mike of the Beastie Boys in Vail Village.
