BATTLEMENT MESA, Colo.—The Garfield County commissioners want the state to wait for the results of a health study before considering an application for three natural gas pads near Battlement Mesa.

The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction reports that the commissioners also voted Monday to ask reglators to move their January meeting to the county.

Antero Resorces has applied to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission for three natural gas pads just outside Battlement Mesa in western Colorado. Several wells would be drilled from the pads.

The company has also proposed drilling up to 200 wells within Battlement Mesa, where about 5,000 people live. Residents who oppose the plan are awaiting results of a study looking at the potential health effects of drilling in the community.
