University of Denver hockey players Drew Shore and Jason Zucker were among 29 players invited to USA Hockey’s pretournament camp beginning Dec. 17 in Troy, Rochester, Jamestown and Amherst, N.Y.

The camp will include exhibition games against Rensselaer men’s team Dec. 19, the Czech Republic on Dec. 21 and a Dec. 23 game against Norway. The final U.S. national junior team 22-man roster will be announced prior to the final exhibition game against Norway.

In addition, Zucker was named the WCHA rookie of the week Monday after he netted his first collegiate hat trick in the Pioneers’ 5-4 overtime win over Minnesota-Duluth last Friday. Zucker ranks first in the WCHA with 12 goals in 12 games, and is third in scoring among league rookies with 18 points in 18 games.

DU lacrosse team picked first in ECAC poll.

The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team was picked first in the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s preseason poll after a vote by the league’s seven coaches.

The Air Force men’s lacrosse team was chosen to finish sixth.

The Falcons’ Dayton Gilbreath was named the preseason defensive player of the year.

The Pioneers claimed two major awards as Mark Matthews was named the preseason offensive player of the year and Jamie Fause was chosen preseason rookie of the year.
