RTD officials said they received the go-ahead at 4:30 p.m. today to resume light-rail service through the area where a man was struck and killed by a light-rail train earlier in the afternoon.
The unidentified man was hit on the tracks near the Alameda station and the investigation of the accident caused a shutdown of train service between the 10th & Osage and I-25/Broadway stations for a little more than two hours.
RTD operated a bus bridge during that time to link rail passengers between the two stations.
Service was restored late this afternoon in time to handle much of the evening rush-hour train service.
Regional Transportation District spokesman Scott Reed said the accident victim was in an area of the rail right of way that is posted as “restricted” and was trespassing on RTD property.
He said the accident occurred about 200 yards south of West Bayaud Avenue.
Reed said the area is fenced. The train operator saw the person on the tracks but could not stop in time, he said.
