Former University of Denver golfer Katie Kempter will retain her LPGA Tour card for next season if she can maintain her position at the tour’s final qualifying tournament at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Kempter is in a tie for 13th at even-par 144 after Thursday’s second round of five. The top 20 earn full exemptions for next season. Two other former Pioneers will have to move up if they hope to earn their cards. Stephanie Sherlock is tied for 35th at 148, and Kimberly Kim is one stroke behind Sherlock. Alison Whitaker, a 24-year-old Australian who moved to Denver this summer, is tied for 67th at 150.

DU’s Willis gets invite to MLS combine.

University of Denver three-time all-conference goalkeeper Joe Willis is one of only five college goalies to get an invitation to attend the 2011 Major League Soccer predraft player combine in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in January.
