Former Colorado House Majority Leader Alice Madden, who has worked as Gov. Bill Ritter’s climate- change adviser, is going to academia.

The Boulder Democrat will join the School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado Denver effective Jan. 17. She will serve as the Wirth Chair, providing a forum for research, dialogue and education on policies that balance economic, environmental and social- welfare priorities, according to a news release.

“I am incredibly honored to be named the Wirth Chair and cannot wait to dive in,” Madden said in a statement. “It will be a privilege to continue the good work of the chair on these important issues.”

The position is named for its founder, former Colorado Sen. Tim Wirth, president of the United Nations Foundation and Better World Fund. Lynn Bartels, The Denver Post
