AVONDALE, Colo.—Grass fires that broke out north and south of Denver have burned two structures.
A grass fire in Avondale east of Pueblo that grew to 40 acres Friday afternoon burned a mobile home and two vehicles. No one was injured and the fire has been fully contained.
Pueblo County Sheriff Deputy Laurie Kilpatrick says fire officials believe a tossed cigarette started the blaze. She says conditions are extremely dry and people need to be careful.
A grass fire northeast of Brighton was threatening several structures. Denver’s KMGH-TV reports that a controlled fire went out of control around 3 p.m. Friday and grew to 100 acres.
Fire officials say an empty building burned.
