
Collectible Colorado Christmas
Whitney’s Designs, the local business launched in 2004 to help raise funds for the Colorado National Guard, has released its latest series of ornaments depicting “the splendor of Colorado.” There are seven ornaments in the series, including the one for 2010, titled “Hidden Colorado.” Prices range from $24.95 to $34.95 at .
Award-winning dedication
Denver’s Old House Society, a nonprofit organization for owners of homes that are 50 years old or more, has announced the recipients of its annual awards that honor people with an exceptional dedication to education and historic preservation. Those honorees are author and CU-Denver professor Thomas Noel, who will receive the “Grand Old-House Lover Award,” and local historian Alice Bakemeier, who will receive the “Exceptional Old-House Educator Award.” They will be honored at a “Roaring 20s Speakeasy Night” party and ceremony Jan. 20, at the Wynkoop Brewery, 1634 18th St. Tickets for the event are $50-$60 at .
Gimme a new pop-up store
Gimme Gimme Pillow Toast, the Japanese pop-culture gift shop formerly housed at Belmar, has opened a temporary pop-up shop at Mod Livin’. The store features clothing, stationery, media, toys, accessories and wacky Japanese items like the kids’ KISS sneakers pictured here. Holiday shopping events at the pop-up store include today’s Colorado Gothic Lolita Society cookie exchange and tea party from noon to 6 p.m.; and the Merii Kurisumasu Party on Dec. 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. with hot cider, hot sake and Japanese snacks.
