
Yule train show. The Museum of the West (pictured at right) in Grand Junction offers visitors year-round opportunities to sit in Old-West stagecoaches or one of the first planes to fly in the area, view Anasazi artifacts and rock art, and visit a one-room schoolhouse. On Dec. 18, the museum will put on its 22nd annual Christmas train show. The display depicts the Rio Grande Railroad as it operated from Denver to Salt Lake City. Displays, railroad art and videos will also be on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $1 for kids under 12, $3 for adults and $7 for a family.
Ouray’s Festivus celebration. The third annual Festivus party will take place in Ouray on Dec. 19. This celebration, modeled after the classic “Seinfeld” television episode, will feature vendors with hot treats and beverages, carols and bonfires. The celebration is free to attend and runs from 3 to 9 p.m. or 970-325-4746
Winter Park Snow Fest. The Winter Park Snow Fest, Jan. 21-23, celebrates winter fun with on-snow competitions and clinics, night parades, fireworks, bands, ice sculptures, dog sled races and family activities. Admission is free.
Black Canyon snowshoe tours. Ranger-guided snowshoe tours are available in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Montrose, Saturdays at 10 a.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m., Jan. 22-March 6. There will also be a ranger-guided, moonlight cross-country ski outing on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. Call 970-249-1914, ext. 423 to reserve your spot.
