The 2011 All-State Games are going in another direction.

For the 55th gathering of senior student-athletes — a sort of last hurrah after graduation — the showcase event of the Colorado High School Coaches Association will be at Adams State College in Alamosa.

Recently held in Aurora and Denver, and in Greeley at the University of Northern Colorado, the move to the San Luis Valley is being applauded.

“There’s a lot of people excited about this,” said CHSCA past president Dave Forster, a 1981 Adams State graduate and girls basketball coach at Centauri. “It was time for a change.”

Significant improvements to athletic facilities at Adams State were a huge factor in drawing the event.

Practices and games for boys and girls basketball, football, softball, volleyball and wrestling will be from June 7-11.
