A fire in a natural-gas field just south of Byers continues to burn while gas-company officials gather necessary equipment, a spokesman for the company said.
El Paso Corp. spokesman Robert Newberry said crews are targeting Thursday to begin efforts to extinguish the fire, which he says has been isolated. Newberry said the proximity to a natural-gas well makes fighting the fire tricky.
He said that water tanks, bulldozers and other equipment needed to extinguish the flames are on the way.
