ADAMS COUNTY – Firefighters say a flat tire appears to be the cause of a fire that destroyed a charter bus on the ramp from Interstate 76 to Interstate 25 early Tuesday morning.

According to North Washington Fire Battalion Chief Stuart Sunderland, firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 4:00 a.m. By the time they arrived, large flames were engulfing the back of the bus. Fire crews were able to douse the fire within 20 minutes and then worked for about an hour more on hot spots, Sunderland said.

The fire forced the closure of the ramp from eastbound I-76 to northbound I-25 for several hours. No injuries were reported.
