PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.—Construction is under way on a $14.4 million building at Peterson Air Force Base to house the Space Education and Training Center.

A ceremonial groundbreaking occurred last week at the base in Colorado Springs.

The education and training center has been operating in a leased building in Colorado Springs since 2004.

The center houses two schools, the National Security Space Institute and the Advanced Space Operations School.

The schools educate a total of about 2,400 people a year.

The new building is expected to be finished in 2011 or 2012.
