AURORA — A judge has raised the bail to $500,000 for a man charged in the shooting of an Aurora Central High School girl last week.

Luis Guzman-Rincon, 19, appeared Tuesday in Arapahoe County District Court.

The bail for Guzman-Rincon, who is in the U.S. illegally, had been set at $100,000. But the district attorney’s office requested and received the increase to $500,000.

Police say he shot a 17-year-old girl outside the school Dec. 6. Friends have identified the girl as Karina Vargas, who is recovering from being shot in the torso.
