YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif.—Yosemite National Park officials say three rock climbers were rescued after being stranded on the wall of El Capitan overnight.
Park rangers helped lower the trio down the 7,500-foot granite monolith to safety on Monday afternoon. The climbers have been identified as 24-year-old Sarah Land of Oakhurst, 25-year-old Walker Mackey and 23-year-old Rio Mackey, both of Boulder, Colo.
Park officials say Land called for help Sunday after a 200-pound rock struck and injured her. But with night falling, rangers were unable to mount a rescue.
An Army helicopter took two rangers to the top of El Capitan the next day, where they lowered themselves down and rescued the climbers.
Land suffered moderate injuries. Her companions were not injured.
