GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—An attorney for a man accused of firing at police in Colorado after escaping from an Arizona prison says a plea deal might be final soon.

Tina Fang of the state public defender’s office told a judge Tuesday that the case against 36-year-old Daniel Renwick could be resolved soon.

Renwick is charged with first-degree attempted murder and being a fugitive. He is accused of firing at officers during a chase Aug. 1 in western Colorado.

Renwick is one of three convicts who escaped July 30 from a privately run prison in Kingman, Ariz. He was serving time for second-degree murder.

The Daily Sentinel reports that Fang asked that the defense be allowed to independently examine the police car allegedly fired at.
