CRAIG, Colo.—State health officials are reviewing proposals for Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association Inc. to cut emissions at a coal-fired plant in Craig.
Tri-State supports adding selective non-catalytic reduction technology at its plant to help the state reduce haze around national parks and wilderness.
Tri-State spokesman Brad Jones tells the Craig Daily Press the project would have initial costs of about $40 million, annual operating costs of about $10 million, and cut nitrogen oxide emissions by about 15 percent.
But environmental groups and Denver and Boulder counties propose adding selective catalytic reduction technology, which could cut nitrogen oxide emissions by 80 percent. Jones says that would cost about $660 million.
