DENVER—A man convicted of sexually assaulting three women in three separate attacks in the 1990s has been given multiple life sentences—plus 384 years in prison.

A judge sentenced 45-year-old Byron Gay Friday to three consecutive life terms and 384 years more. A jury convicted Gay in October of two counts of kidnapping, six counts of first-degree sexual assault, three counts of aggravated first-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree sexual assault.

Authorities say the assaults took place in 1993 and 1995. They say Gay broke into the women’s homes and attacked them while they sleeping.

The crimes were unsolved until a detective with the Denver Police Department’s cold case unit linked Gay to the rapes through DNA evidence.
