DURANGO, Colo.—The U.S. Forest Service and a private developer have formally completed an exchange of land in southwest Colorado.
The Durango Herald reports that the Forest Service gets 160 acres west of Durango Mountain Resort, a 10-acre mining claim in a wilderness area and about $452,000.
Tamarron Properties Associates gets 228 acres adjacent to property it already owns.
A warranty deed was filed Wednesday, making the deal official.
Some environmentalists and people who own property near Tamarron’s holdings objected to the deal, saying it was lopsided and that it threatened the preservation of a historic wagon road.
The Forest Service rejected three appeals.
