It might seem like the current Broncos are the worst team in the franchise’s 51-year history, but NFL reporter Mike Klis says that’s not so. His “best” worst teams:
1. 1982, 2-7Included distasteful strike that wiped out seven games. Each win in YBE — Year Before Elway — was by three points.
2. 1963, 2-11-1 Opened with 59-7 home loss to Chiefs.
3. 1967, 3-11 Last in AFL in offense and defense. The worst of Floyd Little’s teams was his first.
4. 2010, 3-10 Video scandal, coach’s firing, last in points allowed — and to think this season featured an easy schedule.
5. 1990, 5-11 How can a team with John Elway making every start and Bobby Humphrey rushing for 1,202 yards be so bad?
6. 1964, 2-11-1 Last in every major offensive category.
7. 2009, 8-8 6-0 start masked a deeply flawed, fractured team. It started with McJaygate; ended with 20-point home loss to 3-12 Chiefs.
8. 1999, 6-10 Considering the Broncos had just come off back-to-back Super Bowl championships, Terrell Davis suffered dooming knee injury and it was YAE — Year After Elway — this may have been the most downer of seasons.
9. 1961, 3-11 Season-ending, seven-game losing streak included back-to-back losses of 37-0 at San Diego and 55-14 to Houston.
10. 1966, 4-10 Scored a measly 14.0 points per game.
