A Castle Rock man accused of shooting his pregnant wife and engaging police in an 11-hour standoff faces charges of first-degree assault and domestic violence, police said.
Castle Rock Police Chief Tony Lane said that Trenton Orendorf, 40, may face additional charges after police finish investigating his home. Orendorf is accused of shooting Shannon Orendorf, 33, who neighbors said is three months pregnant.
Lane said the investigation continues to be hampered by residual tear gas left after police repeatedly deployed gas into the house during Saturday’s standoff.
“This is not an easy crime scene to process. You can’t be in there for more than 10 or 15 minutes without protective gear before the tear gas starts affecting you,” Lane said.
Lane said that Orendorf is being held at Douglas County Jail. Lane said that it is still unclear how many weapons Orendorf may have had, and what factors led to the incident.
Police are not sure whether the shooting was intentional. Shannon Orendorf remains in stable condition at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree.
