The Colorado Public Utilities Commission held a hearing Monday on an open-records request by a southern Colorado ranch that is fighting plans to put a transmission line through the property.

Trinchera Ranch, owned by investor Louis Bacon, has requested commission documents related to the line, which would carry power from solar-energy generating stations in the San Luis Valley.

At the hearing, Xcel Energy and Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, which would build and operate the line, said they want to receive copies of the documents. Attorneys for both sides are in discussions, and the commission intends to fulfill its obligations under the state’s open-records law, said PUC spokesman Terry Bote.

Trinchera spokesman Cody Wertz said the ranch wants to ensure there is no inappropriate interaction between the commission and Xcel.
