DENVER—More than a foot of snow has fallen in parts of western Colorado and a total of 8 feet could pile up by the time the storm tapers off.
Some ski areas are reporting more than 2 feet of new snow. There was so much snow in Steamboat Springs Monday that a women’s ski race was canceled at the Surefoot Steamboat Holiday Classic and rescheduled for Tuesday.
People in Crested Butte are bracing for at least 6 feet of snow this week.
The snow isn’t expected to make it to the Denver area and along the Front Range. The National Weather Services says a moderate to strong La Nina is behind the drier, warmer weather east of the Continental Divide.
