ENGLEWOOD, Colo.—Seasons for Denver Broncos kickers have consistently resembled Arizona’s summers, with triple-digits the norm.

Matt Prater continued the tradition over the last two seasons.

But with Prater’s placement on injured reserve on Thursday with a persistent right groin injury, a longstanding steak that started after Bill Clinton’s first inauguration will end when this season culminates in two weeks.

Prater is stuck at 76 points. Without his personal setback in all likelihood he would have kept the status quo. But the kicker has tried unsuccessfully for two weeks in practice to swing his leg with authority, experiencing pain and thus ending a pursuit of another season continuing a longstanding, but little-known NFL record.
