You’ve probably heard the news that one-day walk-up ski-lift tix at Vail and Beaver Creek will be $108 today through Jan. 2. Yow.
And bowling in Vail isn’t cheap either. A new and very swank bowling alley called Bol Vail in the Solaris building opened July 12 — and it offers a very cool bar, restaurant, DJs and, of course, bowling. Owner Barry Davis calls it “the nicest bowling alley in the world,” and I’ve been there and he’s right.
Usually, 10 lanes will accommodate six people at a time, each lane at $45 an hour. But not over the holiday season, which lasts through Jan. 2. People who reserved a spot more than a month ahead had to reserve two lanes for two hours at $100 an hour for each lane. Yup, that’s $400 to go bowling. It gives new meaning to Vail’s back bowls. And what would Ralph Kramden say? And the Big Lebowski?
A few single lanes are now available at $100 an hour.
“We are not trying to gouge people,” Davis says. “We’re just trying to manage a limited commodity. If you think of family activities you can do in Vail, this is pretty reasonable. Tubing is $28 an hour per person. Bowling here is about $16 an hour per person. If people think about it a little, it’s not so crazy.”
The strange thing is, people complain that it costs too much at the same time they complain it’s full. Face it, folks, it’s Vail. It’s expensive. And this place rocks. Look at it on .
Going, going, gone.
Big news for Celine Dion fans — and there are still plenty of them. At the Jon Bon Jovi benefit concert for CeDAR on Jan. 21, impresario Chuck Morris has arranged to have two hot tix to Dion’s opening night at Caesars Palace on March 15 in the silent auction.
Happy holidays!
A smiling holiday card comes from Gov.-elect John Hickenlooper with his family and two B-cycles lying in the grass. “What a year!” Hick writes inside above the printed message, “From John, Helen, and our little world dominator, Teddy.”
