GREELEY, Colo.—A Phoenix truck driver accused of a carjacking, shooting at a sheriff’s deputy and breaking into a home in northern Colorado was being held Wednesday on $2 million bond.

Scott Walker, 47, faces at least 14 charges after a crime spree that started Tuesday morning with a carjacking in Greeley, police said.

Walker appeared by video for a bond hearing Wednesday in Weld County Court. If he doesn’t post bond, the district attorney’s office will file charges Monday, said spokeswoman Jennifer Finch, who didn’t know if Walker had an attorney.

He is facing a series of charges, including attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, first-degree burglary, felony menacing and aggravated motor vehicle theft, according to police.

Police started getting calls at 10:19 a.m. Tuesday about a man waving a gun around and walking in Greeley, about 60 miles northeast of Denver. Witnesses said the man had parked a semitrailer in an intersection and took off.

Walker went to an apartment complex, looking for a vehicle, according to the police report. He pointed his gun at a maintenance worker and demanded his car keys, police said. The man told him his keys were in his car, but Walker fled when he couldn’t find them, police said.

Authorities then got a report from someone who said an armed man told him to get out of his cable TV truck and drove away with it.

Walker drove to a home west of Greeley and smashed through a closed gate, got out of the truck and went inside, where he confronted a father and son, police said. Homeowner Michael Morgan said Walker told him he was running from police. Morgan, a Mormon bishop, said he offered to help him.

Police said Walker went outside and fired at a sheriff’s deputy walking toward him. The shot hit the deputy’s car.

Walker then ran through the house, got in the stolen truck and tried to ram through a metal fence, police said. He got out of the truck and tried to flee, but surrendered to officers surrounding the home.

Employees at Michael Most Trucking in Phoenix told police that they didn’t hear from Walker after he made a delivery at a Petsmart store in Greeley Tuesday.

Bob West, the trucking company’s terminal manager, told The Associated Press Wednesday that Walker had worked for the company for about a week.

“He seemed like a very good employee,” West said. “He had been doing a good job.”

West said Walker is an experienced truck driver, but didn’t know anything else about his background.

The company has to wait until police release the truck, and then will send a driver to Greeley to take it back to Phoenix, West said.
