DENVER—The Colorado ranching industry is ending the year with fewer positive tests than last year for a disease that can cause fertility problems for cows.

The Colorado Department of Agriculture says that as of Wednesday, there were nine positive locations for bovine trichomoniasis (trik-oh-moh-NIE-ah-sis), or “trich,” in a total of nine counties. The venereal disease was found in Conejos, Crowley, Fremont, Las Animas, Otero, Prowers, Rio Blanco, Saguache and Yuma counties.

Last year there were 16 positive trich locations in nine counties.

Colorado agriculture officials have been urging ranchers to test their herds to catch the disease before it spreads.
