COLORADO SPRINGS — A Boeing 757 made an emergency landing at the Colorado Springs Airport on Thursday morning after being diverted because of an engine problem.
Delta Air Lines Flight 1921, with 224 people on board, landed without incident about 10:30 a.m., despite a fire that broke out in the plane’s main landing gear, authorities said.
However, two people suffered minor injuries while using the inflatable chutes that were deployed to allow passengers to exit the plane on the runway, the Colorado Springs Fire Department said.
Airport spokeswoman Kelly Jackson had no further details about their injuries.
The flight took off from Detroit and was bound for Phoenix.
It was diverted to Colorado Springs for an emergency landing because the right engine was idling and wouldn’t throttle up or down, according to emergency communications.
