An accused drunk driver who ran over a Thornton officer’s foot and was later wounded by gunfire last week was charged today with a number of felonies, including attempted first-degree murder, Adams County prosecutors said.

Andrew Terry, 35, also was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, criminal mischief and vehicular eluding related to the 30-minute chase on Dec. 28.

Terry is being held in the Adams County Jail on $1 million bond.

Records show he has an extensive criminal record, including arrests on charges that include numerous traffic offenses, drunk driving, drug possession, as well as a similar case involving assault on a Westminster police officer, reckless driving and other charges on Dec. 17, according to court records.

He reportedly rammed a Westminster police cruiser after an undercover officer saw him break into a car.

In the latest case, Terry and his truck were found in a WalMart parking lot on Thornton at about 7:15 p.m., after motorists reported he had been driving recklessly, almost causing an accident nearby.

When a Thornton police officer walked up to the Ford Ranger pickup truck, Terry allegedly drove off, running over his foot. He was later stopped briefly on Interstate 76, but then drove off again, intentionally trying to hit a Colorado state trooper, according to prosecutors.

Terry was wounded by an officer’s gunfire in the chase, but his injuries were minor.
