The Obama administration may replace its ambassador to Libya partly because of strains in ties caused by the envoy’s blunt assessment of Libyan leader Moammar Khadafy in confidential documents obtained by WikiLeaks, the State Department said Wednesday.
The officials said Gene Cretz’s candid reporting of Khadafy’s eccentricities may have compromised his ability to work with Libyan officials.
