Your chances of getting a ticket if you run a red light in Aurora are going up significantly. The city is putting up 10 more red light cameras.
But Jim Frye with Citizens for Responsible Aurora Government, or CRAG, says the red light cameras are not helping and are a waste of taxpayers’ dollars.
Frye asked the city for data showing how many accidents happened within a year before and after the first four cameras were installed.
“Three of the intersections actually went up slightly. One intersection, there was a decrease of about 25 percent, but the combined accident rate was almost identical,” Frye said.
Aurora Police admit Frye’s assessment is accurate, but they caution the numbers include accidents within 50 feet of an intersection with a camera.
