DENVER—A Denver mother who plead guilty in connection to her 3-year-old daughter’s death and subsequent alleged attempted cover-up was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Prosecutors say 23-year-old Miriam Gallegos and her boyfriend dumped the child’s body in a ravine and reported her missing in 2007. Authorities later found the girl’s body in a trash bag.

Gallegos was sentenced Thursday. She plead guilty to child abuse resulting in death.

Her boyfriend, 25-year-old Angel Ray Montoya, is scheduled to go on trial next month. Authorities say he killed Neveah Gallegos while her mother was at work. Montoya faces charges of first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.
