Why visit now: The adventure park is open year-round, but the new tubing hill and terrain park are winter-only, with a magic carpet to take you to the top and a day lodge at the base for warming up. The tubing hill offers a 600-foot drop and multiple lanes, while the terrain park features rails, fun boxes and jumps. Cost is $25 for an hour of tubing; $29 terrain park day pass or $49 combo. Open noon-8 p.m. Thursday- Sunday; noon-5 p.m. Monday.
Stay: The pet-friendly, 1880s-era Hotel Frisco (308 Main St., 970-668-5009, ) has one of the most inviting lobby fireplaces around, made of river rock and perfect for nestling next to with a newspaper in the morning before heading out for a day of cold-weather activities. Rooms are cozy and updated; rates start at $278 a night.
Dine: Depending on how late you sleep in, the friendly, always-bustling Log Cabin Cafe (121 Main St., 970-668-3947, ) is an ideal breakfast or brunch stop — green-chile-smothered huevos in a burrito, chicken-fried steak and eggs, and the malted waffles are hearty favorites, and the lunch options are just as filling.
