A man who dumped raw sewage into Wheat Ridge High School’s storm sewer causing more than $270,000 in damage to the school’s retention pond is being sought by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Wheat Ridge police.
The incident occurred on June 25. The clean-up and restoration costs totaled almost $300,000, according to authorities.
Lisa Stigall, spokeswoman for the Wheat Ridge Police Department, said that pictures released today show the owner of the camper lounging around the storm sewer as he drained the sewage.
Investigators have not been able to read the license plate on the camper because a bush obscured the plates.
She said that on July 1, a maintenance man at the school discovered the sewage in the retention pond. Had it not been discovered, she said, it would have flowed into Clear Creek.
The man committed a class four felony by dumping the sewage, said Stigall.
Anyone with information is asked to call EPA special agent Alina Vazquez at 303-312-6495 and Wheat Ridge Detective Kyle Eversole at 303-235-2948.
