LONGMONT — A 46-year-old Longmont man is accused of using a box cutter to slice his 31-year-old girlfriend’s neck, the Daily Camera reported. The woman was treated and released at Longmont United Hospital.

Longmont police arrested Larry Rothermel late Wednesday on suspicion of second-degree assault, Cmdr. Jeff Satur told the newspaper.

Investigators believe Rothermel got into an argument with his girlfriend about 9:50 p.m. and slashed at her neck as the fight escalated, Satur said. The woman ran from the apartment and called 911 from a nearby 7-Eleven, he said.
