ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A year after losing to the Rays in salary arbitration, B.J. Upton agreed Monday to a one-year contract worth $4,825,000, avoiding arbitration.

Upton batted .237 with 18 homers, 38 doubles, 62 RBIs and 42 steals in 154 games with the AL East champions last season. He is the only player in the major leagues with at least 100 doubles and 100 steals over the past three seasons.

CHICAGO — The Cubs agreed to trade pitcher Tom Gorzelanny to the Nationals for prospects, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.

, citing two unidentified baseball sources, reported outfielder Michael Burgess, right-hander A.J. Morris and left-hander Graham Hicks would be sent to the Cubs.

The Nationals also agreed to a $2.75 million, one-year contract with pitcher John Lannan and avoided arbitration.

Reliever Jon Rauch and the Blue Jays agreed to a one-year contract worth $3.75 million. Rauch was 3-1 with a 3.12 ERA and a career- high 21 saves in 25 chances for the Twins last season.

• The Royals reached agreement with reliever Robinson Tejeda (3-5, 3.54 ERA) on a one-year deal worth $1.55 million.

• Right-handers Leo Nuñez and Edward Mujica avoided arbitration by agreeing to one-year contracts with the Marlins.

• Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera and the Indians agreed to a one-year contract worth $2,025,000. He hit .276 with 16 doubles and 29 RBIS in 97 games.

• A person familiar with the negotiations says right-hander Chris Young agreed to a contract with the Mets. Outfielder Willie Harris and the Mets agreed to a minor-league contract.
